The heat wave throughout Italy in the third week of August, 2011 continues with Tuscany, one of the most visited regions by tourists, seeing some of the highest temperatures.
Siena saw a record high temperature of 44 degrees Celsius earlier in the week and many other towns and cities are seeing temperatures close to 40°C.
Temperatures in Italy this August are around 5 to 8 degrees Celsius higher than average and this is the month millions of Italians close their family shops and businesses and take their summer holiday.
On Thursday, 25th August between 16-45pm and 17-15pm these temperatures were recorded: Florence (Firenze) 37°C , Grosseto 35°C, Pisa 31°C, Milan 35°C, Rome 31°C, Palermo 30°C.
Weather forecasters say the heat wave should last until the end of the month and could continue into September.
